Changes to the Electoral Register
In case you are not aware, the way the Electoral Register is compiled has changed to a system called Individual Electoral Registration (IER). Whereas one person (the ‘head of the household’) used to be able to register everyone who lived at a particular address, as of 10th June each individual elector will now need to register in order to be able to exercise their votes in elections and referendums.
The Government have just started an information campaign and the link below will take a YouTube clip of the television advert for this campaign

Registering to vote
The new system of registration means: You can now register quickly and easily online, rather than using a paper form, by going to https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Everyone is now responsible for themselves and you will need to provide your National Insurance number and date of birth when you register.
If anyone has any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me, Basildon Council, or the Electoral Commission.
