The news that UK unemployment fell by 24,000 between May and July is extremely welcome news and further evidence that the Coalition’s policies are working. Contrary to what some would like you to believe, this rise was driven entirely by growth in full-time jobs.
We have now seen 1.4 million new private sector jobs created since the last General Election, vastly outstripping the loss of jobs in the public sector – something Ed Balls and the Labour Party told us was impossible!
We now have more people in work than ever before and more of them in the private sector than ever before. We now also have a record number of women in work. Long-term unemployment is also significantly down since the election. Basildon Job Centre alone has seen a 13% reduction in those claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance.
We are still in the early stages of recovery and, while many risks remain, I do note with interest that Labour are no longer claiming that the recovery isn’t happening, as they had been for some time. They are now claiming that it is the ‘wrong kind’ of recovery.
This is a recovery for hard-working families and Labour have been wrong every step of the way. Thanks to the efforts of sacrifices of the British people, our country is now turning a corner. The Government must continue with their economic plan to improve living standards and tackle our deep economic problems head on and build an economy where those who aspire to work hard and do the right thing are rewarded.
Astonishingly, Labour want to increase borrowing, increase spending, increase debt, which will only serve to undermine our economic recovery, put up mortgage rates and bills and squeeze living standards for hard-working people. Just goes to show – they really will never learn!
